My design from start to finish..
I’ve loved the world of Crash Bandicoot ever since I first received Crash Bandicoot 2 as a gift back in 1997.
I’ve played the first four games many times over the last 22 years, so I felt it necessary to celebrate my love for them by creating an art piece inspired by each one.
This piece is inspired by Crash Bandicoot 1.
If you would like to purchase this design you can do so in a number of ways:
I first experienced this game a few years after completing the second one, borrowing it from a friend.
I naively expected to finish it within a few days.
I was wrong.
It was incredibly difficult and I found it hard to connect with it in the same way.
I picked it back up again when the N-Sane Trilogy was released on the PS4.
I decided before purchasing it that I wanted to try and earn 100% of the trophies for each game, which also enabled me to spend a lot of time exploring them.
I absolutely loved the environment and design of the game, there’s so much foliage and the water mechanics were absolutely stunning (I’m a sucker for nature in games!).
The game was still incredibly difficult, maybe even more so than the original, but now I was able to appreciate the challenge and feel more rewarded for my in-game successes.
So far I haven’t earned all of the trophies yet, but I’m still determined to receive the platinum trophy for all of the original four remakes.
Drawings may appear unfinished, untidy and a little messy, this is because a lot of each drawing is hidden under other layers in the overall design and you would not see them!
I wanted this design to feature some of the main symbols and items that have been included in the first game as I thought it would spark the most joy for other fellow Crash Bandicoot lovers.
GATE ORNAMENT: This design appears at the very beginning of the Native Fortress level and I thought it would make for a lovely ornamental centre piece.
CRYSTALS: A collectible item from all of the Crash Bandicoot games.
GEMS: Another collectible item from the Crash Bandicoot games.
FLOWERS/MUSHROOMS: Tiny features that appear in a lot of the levels from Crash Bandicoot 1.
WUMPA FRUIT: Another collectible item from the Crash Bandicoot games.
LEAVES: A variety of leaves from many of the levels in Crash Bandicoot 1.
VENUS FLY TRAP: An enemy throughout the games (I opted for the purple one as it worked better with the rest of the piece).
WOODEN SPIKES: Something that appears a lot in Crash Bandicoot 1 and serves as a painful obstacle for Crash.
